Pet Wellness & Preventive Care

What is preventive care for pets?

Did you get a new pet this year? Preventive care means staying on top of your new pet's health with routine visits to your veterinarian, such as getting preventative vaccines for your dog, cat, or pet. The goal is to prevent problems before they start or detect and treat them before they become serious. Younger pets should get annual checkups and seniors are usually better off going twice a year. It's the best way to ensure your pet's long-term health and happiness. New pets require a lot of care, so let us make it easy for you. Book an annual checkup with us today!

Preventive Care

The best way to keep your pet healthy is to give them regular exams and keep up with their vaccinations. Dogs, cats, and other pets age faster than people, so significant changes in your pet’s health can happen quickly. Wellness visits allow us to diagnose diseases and conditions early when they’re easier to treat or manage. Often, we can help prevent diseases entirely just by ensuring that your pet has received appropriate dog, cat, and pet vaccinations, including core protection such as the rabies vaccine for dogs.

We recommend that healthy adult dogs and cats visit us at least once a year. Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with health issues or illnesses may need more frequent checkups. At Purple Paws Pet Clinic, your pet will receive preventative care tailored to their needs. This may also include guidance on special treatments such as allergy shots for dogs when needed.

Wellness Exams

Semi-annual preventive care exams are the best way to catch illness early and have the best possible outcome. This is especially important for pets since they cannot tell us when something does not feel right and instinctually hide their symptoms. These visits include a comprehensive physical exam, a discussion of lifestyle risks (feeding, environmental, breed specific), and recommendations tailored to your individual pet’s needs. Regular grooming can also support your pet’s overall health—learn more about our grooming services to keep your pet clean, comfortable, and healthy.

Pharmacy

As part of our veterinary care, we maintain a well-stocked in-house pharmacy for your convenience.  Having medications available right away means we can show you how to administer the first dose during your visit and have your pet feeling better sooner.  For refills, we have an online pharmacy where medications and therapeutic diets can ship directly to your home within a few days.  Because our online pharmacy does not source from unreliable third-party channels as many do, you can be confident in the quality and safe handling of the products.
